Music video was an accidental career. Lol Creme and I were still recording music as the 1970s came to a close, albeit a more experimental and less commercial sort. We had the odd hit here and there, but something else was calling to us from our past. We'd learnt how to be musicians at art college and now it was time to return to our visual roots. We started dabbling with film and video by co-directing a GODLEY & CREME song called AN ENGLISHMAN IN NEW YORK and, against all odds, the finished clip looked as if we knew what we were doing. We fell in love with this new medium and learnt pretty much all we needed during that one shoot, but equally strange was the fact that this peculiar and very wordy song was a big hit all across Europe and so, therefore, was the video.

The rest is the accidental career I mentioned earlier.
